North Carolina’s small towns and rural communities matter. We work here, we live here, and we are raising our families here. That’s why We Are Down Home is working to make rural North Carolina the best place it can be.
We are poor and working-class folks working across race.
Rural North Carolina has experienced a lot of loss over the last decades: Good jobs that offered fair wages have left, rural healthcare providers have all but closed up shop, our schools have been defunded, and so often our own children have to move away to find better, bigger opportunities.
But it doesn’t have to be this way. The member-led grassroots organizing of We Are Down Home connects poor and working-class rural North Carolinians across race to advocate for and create change.
We Are Down Home is a member-led 501(c)3 non-profit organization created to help our member identify local concerns and make impactful community change.
Come on in, y’all. We’ve got work to do.
